if you're on NT/2000 add the aspi layer

And use the best encoder avialable wich is winlame : http://www.chat.ru/~dkutsanov/index.htm don't encode above 256Kbps it is useless.

Track with long blank can be divide with : MPEG Audio Scissors http://tfm.profm.ro

by trimming MP3 u can save around 10K per LP , 10*10 = 100K per CD http://www.logiccell.com/~mp3trim/

Ripping CD On Linux

Use cdparanoia & lame : http://www.xiph.org/paranoia/ , http://www.sulaco.org/mp3
Also there is grip wich is a nice gtk frontend of the both apps upper

dont use VRB since it is not supported by all players

Napa DAV310V :: read mpg v1 cds (in cdv format) 1st version is weak in bass response I donno about the 2d one
Napa 2: 2d version and far better; better bass; Eco mode turn off cd spin and fill buffer
Philips Expendium: more expensive
Aiwa XP-MP3: 10 ' of buffer; less expensive that Philips one but look the same quality than mp2k
